  2/9/2010: ADAPT FOR SUCCESS FILMMAKERS TOLD
Australian filmmakers should develop more scripts adapted from existing original works (books, earlier films, etc) to enjoy greater success, argues Matthew Hancock in Mitigating Risk, a paper published by the Australian Film Television and Radio School, coinciding with the release of the high profile adaptation, Tomorrow When the War Began (2/9/2010).
  2/9/2010: DAVID PUTTNAM KEYNOTING FOR AUSSIE FILM BIZ
Lord David Puttnam, the celebrated British film producer, politician and education leader, will be a keynote speaker at the annual Screen Producers Association of Australia Conference (16 to 19 November at The Hilton Hotel, Sydney). He will speak at a special plenary session on Friday 19 November, before travelling to Queensland’s Gold Coast to preside over the International Jury for the fourth annual Asia Pacific Screen Awards.
  2/9/2010: NEW CINEMA NOVA BAR WITH SPANISH FLAVOUR
After a painstaking three year renovation at Cinema Nova, the upstairs floors of two Victorian Terraces have been converted into a bar/restaurant by award-wining architect Aidan Halloran, where patrons can indulge in the flavours of Spain.
  2/9/2010: NICOLE’S PRODUCING DEBUT AT ROME FEST
Rabbit Hole by John Cameron Mitchell, which marks Nicole Kidman’s debut as a producer and stars Kidman along with Dianne Wiest and Aaron Eckhart, is in the Official Selection at this year’s Rome Film Festival (October 28 – November 5), which will open with Massy Tadjedin’s Last Night, featuring another Aussie actor, Sam Worthington, along with Keira Knightley, Eva Mendes and Guillaume Canet.

  9/9/2010: BRISBANE FEST FINDS NEW VENUES
Following the closure of Brisbane’s venerable Regent Theatre, Screen Queensland’s new Head of Screen Culture, and former Director of the Melbourne International Film Festival, Richard Moore, has announced this year’s Brisbane film festival (moved from July to November 4 – 14) will be staged across three venues - Palace Centro in the Valley, and two new ones: Palace Barracks at Petrie Terrace and the Tribal arthouse cinema in Brisbane City, which has two screens; one 216 seats and the other 250.
  9/9/2010: DARRYL HANNAH TO OPEN MISSION BEACH FEST
Actor, filmmaker and environmental advocate Darryl Hannah will launch Queensland’s Mission Beach 2010 Film Festival at the Gala Opening Night on Friday September 17, prior to the screening of the French/Australian co-production, The Tree, which closed the 2010 Cannes film festival in cinemas from September 30).
  9/9/2010: FILM CRITICS VOTE POLANSKI'S THE GHOST WRITER BEST FILM
Roman Polanski's The Ghost Writer has been voted Best Film of the Year, by 296 members of the International Federation of Film Critics – FIPRESCI for the previous 12 months (from July 1, 2009).
  9/9/2010: IF AWARDS RATINGS CLOSE SOON
Tomorrow When The War Began is the last Australian release to be eligible for consideration in this year's IF Awards; the public rating process ends on September 17. The nominees will be announced on October 12. Rating online is open at www.ifawards.com
  9/9/2010: JOHNNY MERCER FOLLOWS AFRICAN QUEEN
After a rare screening of The African Queen (G, 1951) starring Humphrey Bogart and Katharine Hepburn at the Cremorne Orpheum, Sydney, on September 19, The Mell-O-Tones 14 piece band will celebrate the music and lyrics of Johnny Mercer, with guest star Janet Seidel.
  9/9/2010: MANHATTAN SHORTS FOR SYDNEY
Now in its 12th year, the Manhattan Short Film Festival will give Sydney audiences the chance to see 10 films from 10 different countries in a week of cultural exchange – including Aussie film, Push Bike - all of which are eligible for Oscar nomination.
