21/8/2008: FIRST AUSTRALIAN MOVIE ON BLU-RAY

Puppy, the first Australian movie to be released on the now industry standard hi-definition Blu-ray disc is also the first narrative feature from an independent Australian distributor released on Blu-ray - Gryphon Entertainment for distributor Arkles Entertainment.

Puppy, written and directed by Kieran Galvin, produced by Melissa Beauford of All at Once Productions, releases on September 18 on Blu-ray and DVD. "For a film that begins with such an uncomfortable family argument and follows with an attempted suicide, I wouldn't have expected a comedy from Puppy, but Galvin does an excellent job setting up the darkness of his humor in these first few minutes….Puppy is an excellent debut from Kieran Galvin. With its dark humor, intelligence, and an eye for style, this film could easily gain a cult audience -- and should. Puppy is absolutely worth a watch,” says Daryl Loomis, dvdverdict.com

Puppy has screened at the Malibu International Film Festival, Philadelphia Film Festival, Atlanta Film Festival, South by Southwest Film Festival, Singapore International Film Festival, Atlantic Film Festival, Bend (Oregon) Film Festival, London Australian Film Festival, Toronto Australian Film Festival, Newport Beach Film Festival, Saint Tropez Film Festival, Brisbane International Film Festival and the Australian International Film Festival, Melbourne.

The Puppy Blu-ray disc will include a number of extra features (delivered in standard definition) that are not available on the DVD edition of the film. Three of the director's short films along with a couple of behind the scenes features are also included.
